Corporate Travel Management for the solo traveller
The need for corporate travel management is self-evident: if you are travelling for business purposes, you shouldn’t have to concern yourself with things likes flights, hotel bookings and where to eat – if you don’t want to. As a corporate traveller your mind is on your business objectives.
Itineraries for the solo corporate traveller:
A solo business traveller has no one to back them up if something should go wrong. If they miss a connecting flight due to a delay, they are on their own. If they miss a meeting, it reflects badly on them personally. Depending on time constraints and other business-related pressures (such as the traveller’s need to prepare for a meeting), they’ll need a full to part pre-organised and booked itinerary. It can be fully pre-booked to partly. In the latter case the main bookings are covered, but they have freedom to choose leisure activities.
If the traveller wishes to include leisure time, and the freedom to choose what they wish to do, it’s essential they have the right destination information prepared for them. This includes:
- How to get around efficiently, safely and within any specified budgets
- Destination-specific safety and cultural considerations (e.g. for a woman travelling in the UAE).
- ‘Tourist information’ that offers solo leisure options. This should include restaurants and activities near to where they are staying. An itinerary might include a few suitable options.
Essentials for the solo business trip:
- Pre-arranged transport for the business itinerary (so that they are not stranded looking for a taxi or getting ‘ripped off’ by unscrupulous providers). Solo travellers are at the most risk for exploitation.
- Hotels that accommodate solo travellers and understand their needs. They must offer the right amenities and services (e.g. 24-hour dry-cleaning services). They must also be in the most suitable location for the purposes of the trip, to minimise risk to the itinerary and inconveniences for the solo executive.
- Pre-booked table if they wish to eat out at a top restaurant.
The above are some basics for managing solo corporate travel and underpin every great corporate travel itinerary for the busy executive on a solo trip.
