Refunds and vouchers for future travel
Airlines are in the unenviable position where there is a sudden influx of requests for refunds and this has caused considerable financial stress. As a result, there has been a tendency to delay the refunds or issue vouchers to clients in an effort to maintain the liquidity of the airlines.
Choices Travel are communicating with passengers who wish to take the ‘’voucher for future travel options” and assisting with the application process for the vouchers to be issued by the airlines, cruise companies etc. Refund applications for those passengers who were allowed to apply for a refund have been processed and are being monitored.
Airline news

Domestic air travel will return for business travel from 01 June 2020 and will be phased in on dates that will be announced by Government.
Comair has entered into voluntary business rescue to safeguard the company as well as all stakeholders, effective from 5 May 2020. Comair operates the low-cost airline brand, kulula.com, as well as British Airways in Southern Africa, as part of a licence agreement.
SA Express has been placed under provisional liquidation following a high court ruling on 28 April 2020.
SAA: The Department of Public Enterprises has assured the committees that no buyer had been approached for the sale of the state-owned entities, and no decision had been taken to sell the entities.
SAA Voyager members will not be allowed to redeem miles until July 31. There is a possibility that this could be extended further. Miles will now be valid until 31 March 2021. The expiry date of qualifying companion tickets for Nedbank co-branded credit and cheque cardholders will apparently be extended by an additional (one) year.
Airlink has reached an agreement with South African Airways to re-accommodate SAA tickets issued after December 6, 2019 for travel on Airlink flights.
Revenue from ticket sales will stay with SAA for all 083 SA8 tickets until such time as the flight liability has been fulfilled, according to the new terms of Airlink’s (discontinued) franchise relationship with SAA.
The re-accommodation agreement will allow the transfer of the ticket sale revenue – together with liability for service delivery – to Airlink. Therefore, until the re-accommodations have been affected, Airlink cannot arrange re- bookings as the ticket sale revenue is in SAA’s possession.
Fastjet Zimbabwe will extend the suspension of its scheduled flight network until June 30, according to a press release from the airline.
